PROBLEM
How do we make assistive robotic technologies accessible by harnessing synergies in open source software, electronics and 3D printing ?
Designers, hackers, makers and hobbyists all across the globe tinker daily with robotics, virtual reality and low cost 3D printable devices. How do we direct their efforts to produce an intervention with the potential to improve the quality of life for many.
INTERVENTION
Our vision is to provide access to an open-source 3D printable human sized robotic avatar for hospitalised children and adults to visit locations outside the hospital or to join in family activities. The interface will allow for a fully immersive experience of the robots's environment and remote control of the robot by the patient from their hospital bed.
Reducing exclusion can have significant benefits to the patient's psychology and by extension their recovery.
We also seek to coordinate a global effort in designing and delivering the robot that will foster the open-source ethos including international collaboration, schools and other educational institutions.
Our first target, next 12 months: The Inmoov Challenge to deliver a 3D Printed human size robot that hospitalised children can remote control from their bed to visit the London Zoo.
