PROBLEM
Is our memory the keeper of our sanity? Would we be comforted by the ability to control it in a more active manner?
2 week project at the Royal College of Art with the brief to design an arcade came functioning solely on electrical or mechanical mechanisms and gizmo, inspired by Tim Hunkin (http://www.timhunkin.com/) and his wonderful creations. Use of any electronics was prohibited. Collaboration with Adam Bernstein.
INTERVENTION
Our arcade game, the Elephant Doctor is a satirical commentary on our relationship to our memory and our derived definition of sanity. The player is challenged to use his/her dexterity to control the Elephant doctor’s telescopic trunk so as to not los all their marbles… The marbles- memories, that are caught are committed to memory by being placed on synapses and the light shines, those that slip fall through the apertures of the mind.
Tim Hunkin, the course cohort and fellow student at the RCA avidly played against losing their marbles.
