PROBLEM
The false premise that material abundance is sustainable and the consequences of the failure of that illusion in various forms of abandonment.
INTERVENTION
In the short term:
- Explore the relationship between abundance & abandonment in an abandoned building inhabited until recently by squatters, in the historical centre of Athens.
- Triggered by the current socioeconomic environment in Athens, the exhibition will be set within the building to provide in vivo experience of abandonment and the unveiling of the creativity triggered by it. With the aim to :
- Discover creative abundance in material abandonment.
- Raise awareness in modern society of ways to leverage non-material abundance to address abandonment.
- Raise international awareness on social turbulence in the Greek economic crisis.
In the long term:
- Working towards establishing the foundation ‘Locus Solus’, sheltered in the renovated building, that will strive to create a multidisciplinary environment bridging Philosophy, Art, Design & Science.
- We want to provide a centre to the public of Athens for abundance of thought, creativity and interaction.
- Become a residence for artists from around the world & host of exhibitions, talks and group discussions open to the public. Towards this end we have been in discussions with art & educational foundations and galleries (Slade, Cambridge, Oxford, Blaine & Southern, Documenta) for their participation & for setting-up a scheme for visiting residencies.
